Yildiz: Spain is currently the number one team in the world and I have great respect for them

7:55am, 16 November 2025Football

This morning, November 16th, in the fifth round of Group E of the European Group Stage of the World Cup, the Turkish team defeated Bulgaria 2-0 at home, ensuring the team's qualification to participate in the European World Cup play-offs. (Note: With one round left in the group stage, Turkey is 3 points behind Spain, but the goal difference is 14 points. It is only theoretically possible for them to qualify directly). Yildiz was interviewed after the game.

About this game

The Bulgarian team performed more tenaciously than we expected. Their tight defense made this game difficult, but the Turkish team performed well overall. This victory is of great significance. With this victory, we ensured our qualification to participate in the play-offs. This result also further boosted our morale.

About my performance in today's game

I had many scoring opportunities. If I could seize them, I would have scored at least two goals. I apologize for the missed goals.

About Turkey's next game against Spain

The Spanish team currently ranks first in the world rankings. I respect them very much, but the Turkish team will enter the next game with the goal of winning. We will go all out and hope to achieve the ideal result in that game.
