The 4231 formation became mainstream in the Premier League 24/25 season, and the 433 formation encountered cold

According to the

Recommendation Network on June 6, the official statistics of the Premier League show that the 4-2-3-1 formation in the 2024/25 season has become the most common formation in the Premier League. 13 of the 20 teams used it as their main formation, with a significantly higher usage rate of 37.8% compared to before. This formation was used 261 times in the 2022/23 season, and 408 times in the 2024/25 season. Bournemouth's Ilaura and Chelsea's Maresca used this formation in all 38 games in the 2024/25 season, and are the only head coaches who insist on using the same formation.

The once popular 4-3-3 formation is now slightly outdated. Although Arsenal's Arteta, Newcastle's Eddie Howe and Tottenham's Postkoglu are still in use, more coaches tend to set double fulcrums and No. 10 players in the midfield, rather than a single defensive midfielder with two all-around midfielders. The 3-4-2-1 formation has become the biggest winner, favored by Crystal Palace's Glasner, Manchester United's Amorin and Wolves' Vittor Pereira, and more people may follow suit next season.

In the 2024/25 season, some coaches frequently adjusted their formation but achieved success. Nottingham Forest and Brentford used seven different formations respectively, and eventually finished seventh and tenth, exceeding expectations. Brighton's Shrzeler and Fulham's Marco Silva also spent a good season by changing their formation styles.
