May 28th Former Liverpool midfielder Willie Stevenson died recently at the age of 85. Liverpool's official website expressed condolences.
Stevenson made 241 appearances for Liverpool in the 1960s. As a skilled left-back, Edinburgh-born Stevenson was signed from the Glasgow Rangers by Bill Shankley in October 1962. He is a core member of Liverpool's first League One championship in 1964 and 1966 and the Reds' first FA Cup championship in 1965.
In Anfield's first four full seasons, he missed only nine league games and finished second in the 1966 European Cup of Winners.
Stevenson scored 18 goals for Liverpool, including a penalty to secure the victory in the semifinals of the 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the historic FA Cup in 1965.
Stevenson transferred to Stoke City in December 1967, and before retirement he also played for the Tranmill Wanderers, Vancouver White Hats, Limerick and McClellsfield Town.
