Belgian Basketball Association: Kamala and Ajay Mitchell will miss the European Cup this summer

1:26pm, 2 August 2025Football

According to European media Eurohoops, Kamala and Ajay Mitchell will not represent the Belgian national team in the European Cup.

The announcement released by the Belgian Basketball Association further clarifies the decisions of the two: "Ajai Mitchell will not participate in the European Championships with the Belgian team. After a long and high-intensity season, coupled with a foot injury, he decided to rest and recuperate and prepare for the new NBA season. He still has the enthusiasm to play for Belgium and looks forward to having the opportunity to play for the country in the next few years. Kamara is also eager to play for the national team, but this summer is not an ideal time to join Belgium because he is focusing on taking important next steps in his NBA career."

Kamara's decision may be related to his NBA contract status. He is one of the most cost-effective players in the league. The Trail Blazers forward will earn $2.221677 million next season, and the team has options for the 2026-27 season. Kamala is a popular candidate for a generous contract extension and will replace the last year of the existing contract after renewal. He started 78 games last season, averaging 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. His biggest advantage is his versatility on the defensive end, and he was also selected for the best defensive second team.

Last season, Ajay Mitchell missed 46 games due to toe surgery. The shooting guard averaged 16.6 minutes per game, contributing 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.7 steals. The absence of two people has left Belgium without active NBA players available in the upcoming tournament.
