Three days after the Champions League defeat, Inter Milan announced a "breakup" with Inzaghi

Just three days after Inter Milan lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, the club announced the termination of its contract with head coach Simeone Inzaghi (Inzaghi Jr.).

The 49-year-old coach was hired by the Serie A giant in 2021 and has been in close contact with Saudi Arabian team Riyadh Crescent (transliterated as "Arhilar").

Fabrizio Romano, a well-known Italian football journalist and transfer expert, confirmed in his iconic "Here we go" tone that Inzaghi will coach Riyadh Crescent, with a contract period of three years and an annual salary after tax of up to 26 million euros.

"After playing for Inter Milan for four years and giving everything, it is time to say goodbye to this club." Inzaghi, who led the team to win six trophys, said, "I want to say a few words to millions of Inter Milan fans in the end: You cheer for me, have cried and suffered in difficult times, and have also celebrated laughing and celebrating the six championships we have experienced together. I will never forget you." After meeting with Inter Milan senior executives on June 3, Xiao Inzaghi then announced the news of his departure.

"The club and Simeone Inzaghi will part ways," Inter Milan said in a statement. "This is a decision made by both sides."

Inter Milan President Giuseppe Marotta added: "I want to thank Simeone Inzaghi for the work he did. The enthusiasm he showed and sincerity in the discussions finally made a joint decision. Only by fighting side by side and success day after day can we have a frank dialogue as we are now."

Inzaghi Jr. won a Serie A title, two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups in Meazza (Inter Milan home name, known as "San Siro" by communist AC Milan).

He led Inter Milan to the Champions League final twice, but in the 2022-2023 season, they were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City, and then lost to Paris Saint-Germain last Saturday with the biggest score difference in the Champions League final 0-5.

Inter Milan also lost to Naples by one point and missed the 2024-2025 Serie A championship.

Inzaghi's resignation comes just before Inter Milan participates in the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup (New World Cup), the event will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13.

Riyadh Crescent will also participate in the New World Club Cup.
