Hupu, August 24, Leverkusen sports director Rollfes confirmed that Bonifas' transfer to AC Milan on loan failed.
"When he comes back, the deal for AC Milan will be completely over. It's no secret," sports director Simon Rollfies (43) said in an interview with Photos on Sunday afternoon.
Bonifas went to AC Milan for a mandatory medical examination on Friday. He will be rented for one year and can choose to buy out afterwards.
Leverkusen could have received a total of 29 million euros in transfer fees (lease loan fee of 5 million euros, transfer fee of 24 million euros). Everything was negotiated by the two clubs.
Italian media reported that AC Milan may renegotiate with Leverkusen on Bonifas' transfer terms.
"I don't think this will happen," Rollfys stressed.
Therefore, Bonifas, who is currently still a transfer candidate, will return to Leverkusen first.
Under new coach Eric Tenhager (55), he trained with his personal coach during his vacation to maintain his best shape. Bonifas had to slow down during the preseason due to repeated discomfort reactions.
Rolfies said his form has been "better than it was when he first started". "Boni needs to continue to develop. We believe he can make progress. But he must take these steps."
