May 24th local time on Friday local time, this season's Bundesliga champion Cologne announced his breakup with the team's interim coach Von Kerr.

The 71-year-old coach coached Cologne's last two league games this season as interim coach, and with two wins, Cologne secured the Bundesliga championship and upgraded to the Bundesliga. Cologne officially announced that the team will start the new season with a new head coach.

Cologne Sports Director Teng Kessler said: "We had a very candid and respectful conversation with Von Keir today. The exchange showed great respect and equality from the outset. In the conversation, we transparently stated that in a responsible selection process, we needed to communicate with multiple potential candidates. In this regard, Von Keir told us that he fully understood the importance of this position requiring such a process, but he personally decided not to participate in this. ”

In addition, Kessler expressed his gratitude to Von Kerr: “We are very grateful for his clear position and contribution to Cologne – this will not change in the future. We have agreed to continue to maintain close contact and discuss in the form he will continue to contribute to the club with his expertise in the future.”

Von Kerr coached Cologne from February 2002 to October 2003, when he led the team to the Bundesliga. In the spring of 2021, he re-entered Cologne and helped the team relegation successfully in the final six league rounds and subsequent play-offs.
