The secret of the Champions League bonus distribution: Arsenal is second in the Premier League, why is the prize money worse than Tottenham?

Although ranked second in the Premier League, Arsenal will receive less bonuses before the start of the Champions League next season than Tottenham, which ranks 17th.

The Daily Mail pointed out that this anomaly stems from UEFA's latest bonus distribution mechanism, especially special rewards for UEFA champions. This season, Tottenham not only secured a seat in the Champions League next season, but also qualified to participate in the UEFA Super Cup in August.

According to UEFA's new financial allocation model, all six Premier League teams participating in the Champions League will receive an initial prize of £15.72 million. However, the actual amount of money obtained will be significantly different due to factors such as the European War performance coefficient in the past 5 and 10 years and the value of broadcast rights in various countries.

Tottenham is expected to receive a total of about £44.62 million in bonuses. The prize will be further increased if Portugal runner-up Benfica fails to pass the Champions League qualifiers. In addition, with the £3.38 million reward for participating in the European Super Cup, Tottenham's total prize money before the start of the new season may reach £48 million, about £140,000 more than Arsenal.

Although they only ended in the Premier League with third place, Manchester City is still the team among English clubs that is expected to receive the most prizes before the 2025/26 season, with a total of £53.13 million, mainly due to their excellent results in ranking second in Europe in UEFA ties. Liverpool followed closely behind, with an estimated £51.64 million, Chelsea £48.82 million, while Arsenal only £47.86 million.

On the other hand, Newcastle is expected to only receive a prize of about £25.4 million due to its mediocre performance in the European war in recent years. They were assigned to the final team of the Champions League draw, while Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea ranked first seeds, Arsenal was second and Tottenham were third.

As for the game results bonus, it is consistent with last season. After eight matches in the group stage, each group leader will receive an additional £8.3 million in bonuses, and each victory will also receive a bonus of £1.76 million. The team that eventually won the final in Budapest can receive a huge reward of up to 55 million pounds.
