Mbappe reveals big news that Real Madrid will miss the Golden Globe Awards for the second consecutive year

4:31am, 20 September 2025Football

On the eve of the revelation of the Golden Globes, Real Madrid star Mbappe confirmed through the Champions League broadcaster CBS that he will absent from the award ceremony for the second consecutive year, and all members of Real Madrid will not appear at the Paris Gala. This decision continued the club's boycott of the Golden Balls. Last year, Real Madrid collectively absent from the awards at the last minute because they believed that Vinicius and others were treated unfairly.

Although Real Madrid still won two honors: Best Men's Club of the Year and Best Men's Football Coach (Ancelotti) in the 2024 selection, the club believes that it has been despised in the most important player awards. Whether the reason for this year's absence is still due to dissatisfaction is still unknown. Some analysts also pointed out that the schedule of away match against Levante 24 hours after the awards ceremony may be a more realistic factor.

Mbappe scored 44 goals in his first season with Real Madrid, breaking the 37-year goal record set by Zamorano in the 1992-93 season. However, the lack of team honors has allowed the French to voluntarily withdraw from the competition, and Real Madrid failed to win any trophy in the 2024-25 season. Currently, the competition for the Golden Globes focuses on four people, Yamal, Rafinia, Salah and Mbappe's friend Dembele.

"The prerequisite for winning the Golden Ball Award is team honors, so I just need to focus on helping the team win the championship," Mbappe said calmly. "I will cheer for Dembele in front of the TV. I will be sincerely happy if he wins the award." The 2018 World Cup winner ranked third in the 2023 Golden Ball selection and has not yet broken through this result. The last Golden Globe winner of Real Madrid is still Benzema in 2022.
