Hupu, August 22, Manchester City officially announced that it will renew its contract with defender Ruben Dias until 2029. After completing the contract renewal, Dias was interviewed by Manchester City's official media.
Ruben, congratulations on signing the new contract. Tell us, what do you feel like when signing this contract?
First of all, I have to say thank you. I want to say that when I sign a new contract, I am really happy to think of the opportunities in the next four years, but what makes me happiest is to be able to play for another four or five years at this level and with such ambitions.
You are 28 years old now. Since joining Manchester City, you have achieved great success. Usually when a player reaches this stage of his career, the next contract is crucial. Is it difficult to make a decision to sign this contract?
This is indeed a major decision.
How much time did you spend thinking before you decide to entrust your future to Manchester City?
I think this is a wise move, and this is also what I thought after I was 28 years old and had a professional player career. Like you said, this is a key part of our career. Obviously there are many different factors to consider, but for me, the most important thing is to continue to play at this level, and the conditions here in Manchester City are perfect for me. When it comes to playing football environment, there are all things that football can give me here. I actually mentioned it many times in private. Looking at the entire football world, especially in European football, the top level of the Premier League has always been my goal - I looked at the Premier League when I was a child, and it is the standard for me to measure whether I have reached the top level. Now I have the opportunity to renew my contract, which means I will fight here for nine years. Now I still want to win more honors. I will be very proud to be able to stay in this club for ten years. Obviously, as you said, I have won a lot of honors since joining the franchise, and I hope I can win more in the future. But I think that being able to play for nine to ten years at such a level is definitely worthy of my pride.
During these five years at Manchester City, you have received numerous personal and team honors. So far, what are your most proud achievements?
is difficult to pick out separately. Want to ask about the most proud achievement? In fact, there are many, and to some extent, being able to sit here to sign a contract today also embodies all this. So in a sense, it was a grand celebration of past experiences - all my memories at this club, all the championships I won, all the efforts I put in. Perhaps it can be said that this moment is a special moment. But there are also moments in my heart that always occupy a special position, one of which is definitely the Triple Crown, and the other is my first season - because everything is brand new and a proof of myself. But there is another thing I will always remember in my heart and take it as a good memory, which is to achieve the four consecutive Premier League championships, because no one has ever done this before. So, there are many unforgettable moments, but I think it is appropriate to say that the decision to renew the contract is a collection of all the past.
