In the North American League Cup final held in Seattle on Sunday, Miami International lost to the Seattle Bayerman 0-3, and the two sides clashed on the court after the game.

The conflict had multiple fuses, but was initially triggered by Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

After the final whistle, Suarez immediately walked towards Gulfmen midfielder Obed Vargas, and the two sides had a verbal dispute, and then both were pulled apart. Busquets then walked over and clenched his fist to Vargas in the face. After that, the players of both sides quickly gathered together.

Several Gulf players were strangled in the conflict, and some people were punching on the court, and Suarez even spitted at Gulf security director Gene Ramirez.

These behaviors are expected to be punished, but the punishment has not yet been determined, and the North American League Cup Organizing Committee is still retrieving videos for investigation. A spokesperson for the organizing committee told GIVEMESPORT: "The League Cup Organizing Committee is reviewing the events that occurred at the end of the game and will take corresponding measures." The bigger question is whether players will be affected this season.

The North American League Cup is an independent event, and any punishment will be executed first in the future North American League Cup. Suarez and Busquets may not participate in the North American League Cup at all - the two are still considering whether they will extend their careers until after 2025.

However, MLS has a precedent to extend violations in the League Cup to additional penalties.

In 2019, Real Salt Lake City coach Mike Petek was sentenced to three games suspended in the North American League Cup for his inappropriate words and deeds to the referee after losing to the Tigers. MLS then added a penalty for three league suspensions and fined him. In the end, Salt Lake City chose to fire Petek, and he has not coached again.

At the 2015 U.S. Open, Clint Dempsey, who was then a striker with the Gulfman, was sentenced to six bans for tearing the referee's notebook. MLS then added three additional league bans.

MLS will most likely have to wait until the League Cup organizing committee completes the investigation and makes a penalty decision before considering whether to take further action.

The senior executives and fans of other MLS clubs are also waiting for the final ruling of the North American League Cup Organizing Committee and even the MLS official.

Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said after the game: "Sadly, this incident will make people ignore the wonderful performance of the Gulf people in this game. I can see this as a compliment, their players are out of control due to frustration, but such things should not be on the court."

Miami coach Mascherano responded: "I have nothing to say, because I am far from where the conflict happened and I don't really see it clearly. Obviously, you will never want to see this, but if there is a reaction, there may be a provocation."

Miami will play Seattle at home in the APF regular season on September 16, and this game has now become a match that cannot be missed.
