Grizzlies' new aid Pope participated in a discussion about the league's superstars in the Dawg Talk podcast, and he made it clear that Donovan Mitchell and Halliburton cannot be considered superstars.
When asked if he thought Halliburton was a superstar, Pope replied: "No... I won't even build a team around Donovan Mitchell. If a superstar wants to win games for me, can he continue to do this every night? Can he play and win for me? Can he average 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game? James has done it all his career."
"We are talking about getting the team in, getting the players in. For example, when my team needs to When I want me to win, I will win. Donovan Mitchell can't do this, and I only give Halliburton a 50-5 evaluation."
Haliburton played 73 games last season, averaging 33.6 minutes per game, and averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. He led the team to the finals in the playoffs and fought with the Thunder until the tiebreak. Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles tendon shortly after the start of the tiebreak quarter and eventually missed the championship.
Donovan Mitchell played 71 games last season, averaging 31.4 minutes per game, and averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game, leading the Cavaliers to one of the best record in team history (64 wins and 18 losses), but lost 1-4 to the Pacers in the playoffs and stopped in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
