Italian player Gallinari talked about his idea of hoping to play in the NBA for another year in an interview.
Garinari said: "I have always had such hope. If I can return to the NBA, I will join as a veteran, which is almost the "insurance option" for the team. I will not get too much playing time, but I will try my best to help the team."
According to reporter De Santis, Garinari also said that his long-term wish to return to the Milan Olympia team is now very slim. Milan Olympia is the starting point of Garlinari's career, playing for three seasons before being selected by the Knicks with the 6th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
"I'm not saying it's completely impossible, but I think the probability is very, very low. The longer the time passes, the more complicated this matter looks." Garinali admitted.
"If you want to go back to Milan, the team needs you," he further explained. "Even in the last few years of the NBA, I have thought about going back to Milan to play many times. But the same thing is that if you want to go back, the team must be willing to ask you. Didn't I wake up one morning and call and say 'Hey guys, I'm going to come back, do you want me?' It's not that simple."
Gallinari added that throughout his NBA career, he had received invitations from many European teams, and teams have recently contacted him, but there were never invitations from Milan's Olympia.
Gallinari's last NBA season was with the Wizards, Pistons and Bucks, and he averaged 12.9 minutes of playing games throughout the season, scoring 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds. In his three playoff games on behalf of the Bucks, he averaged 12.3 minutes and contributed 3.7 points.
This season, Garlinari switched to the Puerto Rico Basketball League to help the Vaqueros win the championship; in the key finals game that determined the title, he scored 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and was elected as the MVP in the finals with this performance. Recently, he also joined the Italian national team to compete in the European Championships, which, according to him, will be his last international competition.
