September 26th senior reporter Yaron Weitzman posted a message today saying that a source familiar with the Lakers and James speculated that James wanted to get an early renewal, but the Lakers were not interested in it.
The reporter then wrote a correction/note in the article, specifically: "The content of this article has been modified. James's agent said that he did not ask the Lakers for an early renewal."

Ritchie Paul did say in an interview in July this year that James did not propose to the Lakers about early renewal or transaction related matters this summer.
James currently has only one year left in his contract with the Lakers, with a salary of $52.63 million, and it will expire next summer.
