May 21 According to Le Marca, Valladolid's game against Leganes may set the club's worst record. They are currently tying the embarrassing La Liga record set by Alaves with 29 losses in a single season and 11 consecutive losses.
Valladolid fell into the relegation zone and never escaped after Sevilla lost 1-2 at home. At the end of the first round of the league, they scored 15 points, which was only 2 points away from the relegation line.
But their performance in the second round of the league exceeded all pessimistic expectations. They only scored 1 draw in 18 games, and all the rest lost. Currently, Alaves has set the record of the largest defeats in a single season (29 games) and consecutive defeats (11 games), tying Sporting Gijon in the 1997/98 season.
Las Palmas also set a record of 11 consecutive losses in the 1959/60 season, and finally ended with a 4-0 victory against Valladolid. In addition, Valladolid may set the worst half-time record: in the 1934/35 season, Gejo Arenas scored only 2 points in the second round. In the 2014/15 season, Cordoba also scored only 2 points in the second round.
However, due to Villarreal's help, Valladolid avoided the biggest score difference with the championship (74 points gap between Barcelona and Cordoba in 2014/15), and the gap has now narrowed to 72 points.
Valladolid's season happened to be after a year of tragic relegation in Almeria, who was relegated to the second division after 31 consecutive games without winning, including the last three games of the 2022/23 season and the first 28 games of the following season, including 12 draws and 19 losses. During the same period, Almeria also set a record of 19 unwinning games at home.
Looking back on the history of La Liga 94 seasons, some black records are so obvious and lasting that they cannot be downplayed over time. For example, Lerida conceded 134 goals in her debut in 1950/51, including at least six goals in ten games.
Celta's "torture" on the away game is also memorable. From 1971 to 1978, they set a record of unbeatable 86 away games.
