The Sun talks about the England squad: Palmer is absent from the squad due to injury, and Henderson’s selection sparks controversy

On November 8, the England national team announced the new national team roster. "The Sun" wrote an article analyzing seven players who caused controversy. Six of them were because they were not selected, and one - Henderson, caused controversy because of his selection.

The following are the seven players listed by The Sun

Galish

After joining Everton on loan this summer, Grealish has gained new vitality. Former Aston Villa star Grealish has contributed 4 assists so far this season, tied for the top spot in the Premier League assists list, and he has also scored a goal. There is no doubt that Foden and Eze are selected, but some people may be disappointed that Gordon, who is in poor form, is selected instead of Grealish.

Watkins

Tuchel's lineup lacks a genuine center (except for the unstoppable Harry Kane), and the second center Watkins has also been excluded this time. Watkins has not been in great form this season, but neither have England's other options at No. 9, with Chelsea's Delap having been sidelined with injury for the past few months and Toni playing outside Europe's top leagues.

Palmer

Palmer, who has been sidelined with a groin injury since late September, will not be upset about not being selected.

Skelly

Arsenal star Skelly (19 years old) has recently declined in form after emerging for the club in the second half of last season.

With Calafio moving to the wing and becoming Arteta's first-choice left-back, and with Kapier joining from Bayer Leverkusen, Skelly has been reduced to a cup player and can only play briefly in the league.

In the England team's left-back position, he was surpassed by Manchester City's 20-year-old Nico O'Reilly, who was selected for the first time in the team list announced on Friday.

Tuchel specifically pointed out that Lewis Skelly was one of the four abandoned stars who "performed poorly". The other three were Loftus-Cheek, White and Trafford.

Trafford

Trafford's talent is unforgettable, and considering that Manchester City's third goalkeeper is unlikely to get too many playing opportunities for the England team, some people believe that introducing a potential future star into the England team system is more effective than introducing the 33-year-old goalkeeper Pope who has ups and downs.

Welbeck

Another forward who was left out by Tuchel is Welbeck. The former Manchester United and Arsenal star suddenly regained his former glory in Brighton this season.

He scored six goals in ten appearances, enough to make him the joint second top scorer in the Premier League this season... only slightly behind the 13 goals of half-man, half-goal machine Erling Haaland.

The reason for Welbeck's selection is not entirely based on fans' nostalgia, and his reason is even stronger due to the serious lack of depth at the team's forward position.

It's been seven years since Welbeck last played for England, but it looks like he'll have to wait a little longer if he wants to add to his record of 42 international caps and keep up his impressive numbers.

Jordan Henderson

Henderson is the only one on this list who has stirred controversy by being selected rather than not. Henderson's selection has been controversial since he left England for Saudi Arabia in 2023. He is widely seen as providing vital leadership experience to a relatively young England midfield, but his outstanding performances at Brentford this season have ultimately seen him establish himself.

Once again, these international fixtures are a great opportunity to give England's future stars a chance, but with the selection of Adam Walton, Elliot Anderson, and the debut of Bournemouth's Alex Scott, fans can understand this.
