Talksport: Prove strength with the UEFA Cup, Aobo is expected to take over as Scotland coach

June 10 talksport reported that Postkoglu is expected to replace Steve Clark as the next Scotland coach.

The Australian coach is currently in unemployed after being fired by Tottenham last Friday, despite leading the team to win the UEFA Cup. Postkoglu's coaching experience at Tottenham was full of twists and turns. The team ended the season only one place higher than the relegation zone and suffered up to 22 losses in the league. However, he ended Tottenham's 17-year record of no championship and proved his strength. This victory will undoubtedly bring him more attention from the team, and rumors of returning to Scottish football have followed.

Postkoglu served as Celtics head coach from 2021 to 2023, winning five trophies during this period, including two consecutive Soviet Super League titles and achieving the domestic triple-champion feat in his final season. Clark, the current Scotland coach, has more than a year left on his contract and will last until the end of next year's World Cup. Since taking office in 2019, Clark has led the team to successfully advance to the European Cup 2020, which is the first time Scotland has participated in a major competition since the 1998 World Cup. He then led the team to qualify for the 2024 European Cup, but the current contract is likely to be his last.

Former Scottish player Ali McCoyst discussed the future of the Scottish national team on talkSPORT radio and said Postkoglu would be a very suitable replacement: "I fully support this choice, no problem at all. He can win the trophy, and Steve Clark did a great job for Scotland, hoping he can lead us to good results in the next World Cup qualifiers against Denmark, Greece and Belarus. It's a good group for us. We have a great chance to perform well in the qualifiers, and if asked if I have any comments on Postkoglu as head coach? I have no problem at all."

"I honestly think it's a wrong decision to fire Postkoglu. This is my first reaction. I know the league rankings are really unacceptable, and I understand that completely. But I Thinking he was betting on the Cup at the end of the season and the injury was bad for him. However, the performance in the league was really not good enough, I understand that. However, for me, the positives far outweighed the negatives. You know, winning a European trophy, winning the first trophy in 17 years, winning the first European trophy in years, and ensuring the qualification for the Champions League next season. I think that's enough to keep him on his job, at least. Obviously it's not. I think Thomas Frank has proved himself at Brentford, he's a very good coach and manager. I can see that happen, seeing him go to bigger clubs, like Tottenham, and I think he deserves the opportunity because he did a good job, but I still think it's not fair to Postkoglu, I really think so."
