Foster + Partners has completed a comprehensive modernization of the Manchester United men's first team Carrington training base. Focusing on creating an efficient and collaborative environment for players and staff, the project has completely reimagined and designed the facility, which was built in 1999. The renovation covers all areas of the building, with the goal of providing the team with world-class supporting facilities while creating a positive cultural atmosphere and laying the foundation for future success. On the basis of basically retaining the original building structure, the external contour has been partially adjusted to add large-area glass curtain walls and skylights. This allows natural light to penetrate deep into the core areas of the building interior.
The warm wood finish creates a lasting and comfortable atmosphere, while the new integrated electromechanical system significantly improves the performance, energy efficiency and user experience of the building. The renovated base provides players with comprehensive protection, health monitoring and support services. The players have an exclusive independent entrance on the south side, achieving seamless connection from the parking lot to the locker area. The wide glass facade and entrance canopy greatly enhance the player's arrival experience. The first floor of the base is equipped with a hydrating and nutritional supply area, an advanced gym with a plateau training room, a spa pool, a brand new locker room, and a medical rehabilitation area with MRI and CT equipment.
players can reach the main lounge area on the second floor through a striking spiral staircase. The area has a continuous glass curtain wall and an outdoor terrace overlooking the training ground below. In the center of the lounge area is a dining area with top-notch kitchen facilities to ensure that the players' strict nutritional needs are met. The coaching staff's open office space is distributed on the north and south sides of the building, and has a dedicated post-match analysis briefing room. The upper floor also has a separate media area, including a press conference room and a studio for television and video content production.
It is worth mentioning that Foster + Partners also announced a new stadium designed for Manchester United earlier this year, which is planned to accommodate 100,000 spectators and will become the largest stadium in the UK when it is completed.
What do you think of the renovation design?
