Recommended Network, May 28: Jorginho said affectionately goodbye to Arsenal teammates and Mikel Arteta
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho confirmed the news that he would leave this summer in a touching farewell video. The experienced midfielder has previously been determined to leave North London after his contract expires next month and join Brazil's team Flamenco on a free transfer.
It is revealed that Jorginho, 33, has reached a three-year contract with Flamengo, and he will return to his native Brazil, where he grew up to 15 years old. He moved to Italy and played 57 international games for the Italian national team.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Jorginho will go to the United States this summer to participate in the first Club World Cup with an expansion to the 32nd team. Flamengo is currently coached by former Chelsea defender Felipe Luis, who will start their Club World Cup tour in Philadelphia on June 16, with their first match against Tunisian Hope, and will subsequently play against Chelsea and Los Angeles FC and Mexico America.
Jorginho joined Arsenal for a transfer fee of £12 million in January 2023. Before that, he played for another London team, Chelsea, for four and a half years, making 79 appearances for the Gunners in various competitions and renewed his contract with the team for a year last year.
This summer, Jorginho will leave Arsenal with Kieran Tierney, who is expected to return to the Celtics, and loan players Sterling and Neto will also end their loan period.
Jorginho posted a video about his time at Emirates Stadium on his official Instagram account and said in person: "You know, sometimes a season is more than just football. It's about moments, people and growth. It's about being part of something greater than myself. When I came to Arsenal, I joined more than just a club, I stepped into a big family full of desires, passions and goals.
"I put all my strength into every training, every game, not just for the results, but for the jersey, for the fans. Your support means a lot to me. Whether I am a starter or a substitute, you all make me feel valued and loved. In the football world, this is rare and I will always remember it. Now, it’s time to say goodbye, maybe it can be said that ‘goodbye is also a friend’.
"When a place feels like home, it is always difficult to say goodbye. But I leave with my head held high, and I am full of gratitude. Thanks to my teammates, for your trust in me and for your motivation. Thanks to the coaches, staff and all the people behind the scenes, for your support on and off the court, for your kindness and love.
"Thanks to the fans for singing my name, and for your trust in me. Thanks to Arsenal, with love and respect, Jorginho. COYG (Come on Gunner). ”
