Ball Push Network June 7th Chelsea defender Trevo Chaloba received major good news in his career and was selected for the England national team for the first time, opening a new chapter in his football career.
Looking back, Charoba's journey to Chelsea has not been smooth sailing. Although he came from the Chelsea youth training camp, he was not reused at first in the Blues with a lot of talents and was rented out for training many times. In August 2024, he was loaned to Crystal Palace, and made 14 appearances for the team in the first half of the season, with 3 goals being credited. However, Chelsea recalled Wesley Fofaner and Badiaciler in advance due to long-term injuries.
Returning to Chelsea's Charoba, seized the opportunity to shine. Under coach Enzo Maresca, he gradually gained a foothold and contributed many wonderful performances to the team. Especially when the UEFA League finals were against Real Betis, he performed well as the starter, with a pass success rate of up to 95%, completing 140 touches, 5 clearances and 5 interceptions, becoming a solid guarantee for the team's defense and helping Chelsea win the first trophy in two years.
For Charoba, his older brother Nathaniel Charoba, who is five years older and plays as a central avant-garde, has always been an important guide to his career. "My brother gave me faith and motivation, thinking, 'Since my brother can do it, I can't.' Not every young player has such a guide, and my brother is my beacon. Until now, we still often discuss each other's games." Chaloba said gratefully.
In addition to his brother, Chelsea's former coach Tuchel has a profound impact on Charoba's growth. In 2021, when Tuchel played against Villarreal in the European Super League, he gave Charoba the Blues a chance to make his debut, and then against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Charoba scored a goal. Charoba recalled: "When the coach trusts you, that feeling is extremely precious. During training, he often communicates with me and teaches me the importance of being a young player, keeping a clear mind, focusing on the present and moving forward step by step." It is this trust that has allowed Charoba to continue to grow.
This season, Charoba played 37 games for Chelsea, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists, averaging 1.2 steals, 0.8 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game. With his continued stable and outstanding performance, he successfully won the favor of England coach Tuchel and was selected for the national team. Now, Charoba is ready to continue chasing his dreams on the stage of England and write more exciting chapters.
