The Memphis Grizzlies' interior new player Jock Landale was interviewed by reporters at the team's media day event. In the interview, he talked about his feelings about joining the Grizzlies' brand new team and the situation of his old teammate Steven Adams when he played for the Houston Rockets.
When talking about the feeling of joining the Grizzlies, Landale said: It feels great to join the Grizzlies, and I am very happy to be able to continue my career here. But moving is a nightmare for me. Because I have so many boxes, I spent a lot of time on this matter. However, as soon as you step into the training ground and play with everyone, this feeling will be very harmonious, and other things will become irrelevant. When talking about his old teammate Adams, Langdale also thanked him for his help. He continued: I had the honor of being a teammate with him for a season with the Rockets last season. Seeing his reading and control of the game, I learned a lot from it. I just sent him a message yesterday and told him that I had come to Memphis and he gave me a lot of advice, he gave the Grizzlies a high praise and taught me how to work with Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr.
In the NBA regular season last season, Langdale played 42 games for the Rockets in 82 games, averaging 11.9 minutes per game, averaging 4.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 0.5 turnovers and 1.2 fouls, with a shooting percentage of 53.3%, a three-point shooting percentage of 42.3%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 67.5%. In the playoffs, Langdale was unable to appear in the team's rotation lineup. He only got one chance to play in total, with only 4 minutes and 51 seconds. During this period, he made 1 of 2 shots and scored 2 points, and no other data was recorded.
Last season, Langdale was the Rockets' third center. He didn't play much time, and in the second half of the season, he basically fell out of the team's rotation lineup. This summer, the Rockets chose to sign Clint Capela as the team's third center, and they also cut Landale. In the end, Langdale joined the Grizzlies with a one-year basic salary contract. Considering that many inside players in the Grizzlies lineup encountered injuries at the beginning of the season, for Landal, this is also a key factor in his seizing the opportunity to gain a foothold in the team. If Landale can use the season to show enough competitiveness, it could be a season where he can fully demonstrate his strength.
