On July 8, the Knicks officially issued an announcement to officially appoint Mike Brown as the team's new head coach. According to previous reports, Brown signed a four-year contract worth about $40 million. "After a comprehensive and extensive selection process, we are pleased to announce Mike Brown as the head coach of the New York Knicks. Mike coached on the biggest stage of our sport and brought our team a championship lineage. His experience as a coach in the NBA Finals, his experience of winning four championships as an assistant coach, and his ability to develop and develop players will help us achieve our goal of bringing a championship to New York fans."

Knicks owner James Dolan also said in a statement: "I welcome Mike Brown to New York to join the Knicks. Leon and our team conducted a comprehensive and meticulous selection work and finally found Mike. I am very happy to see him coaching on the sidelines of our team next season."

Brown began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Wizards, Spurs and Pacers. He has since served as head coach of the Cavaliers twice, coached the Lakers and Kings, and served as the Chief Assistant Cole for the Warriors for six years.

His regular season record was 454 wins and 304 losses (59.9% win rate) and his playoff record was 50 wins and 40 losses (55.6% win rate).

Brown was elected coach of the year in 2009 for the Cavaliers and was awarded this honor again in 2023 for the Kings. He helped the Kings end a 16-year playoff drought two seasons ago, but was fired after the team missed the playoffs in 2024 and started the bad start last fall, and Doug Christie took over.

So far in his career, Brown has coached many superstars, including: Curry, Dream Chasing, Clay, Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, James, Kobe, Gasol, Fox and Sabonis Jr. The Knicks' decision to hire Brown marks the end of its head coach selection work that has gone through twists and turns. At first, the team requested a conversation with several coaches who had signed with other teams. The Mavericks (Jason Kidd), Timberwolves (Chris Finch), Rockets (Ime Uduka), Hawks (Quin Snyder) and Bulls (Billy Donovan) all rejected the Knicks' request, prompting the club to turn to candidates who currently have no head coaching position.

Brown is one of at least four candidates for the Knicks interview, including Taylor Jenkins, James Borrego and Mika Norri. The team also contacted Dawn Stee of the University of South Carolina to discuss the job, but it is not clear whether she has participated in the formal interview.

In his new position, Brown will shoulder the heavy responsibility of helping the Knicks. The Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals this spring. Brown wants to help the team break through the bottleneck and strive to win the third championship in team history, which will be the first championship since 1973. He will take over a team with All-Stars Brunson and Towns as the core.
