It’s not cheap to be old and slow! What is the significance of the Clippers signing a former Bucks inside veteran?

According to the report of ESPN's well-known reporter Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Clippers reached an agreement with 37-year-old former Milwaukee Bucks inside veteran Brook Lopez, who will receive a two-year contract from the Clippers with a total amount of $18 million.

In the NBA regular season this season, Lopez made a total of 80 appearances in 82 games, averaging 31.8 minutes per game, averaging 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.9 blocks, and 1.1 turnovers and 2.1 fouls, shooting percentage of 50.9%, three-point shooting percentage of 37.3%, and free throw shooting percentage of 82.6%. In the playoffs, Lopez played 5 games in total, with averaging 14.8 minutes per game, with averaging 5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1 block, and 0.8 turnovers and 2.2 fouls. His shooting percentage was 36.4%, his three-point shooting percentage was 26.7%, and his free throw shooting percentage was 100%.

Lopez's performance in the regular season was quite average, and he was able to show his characteristics on the offensive end. His offensive efficiency was also maintained at a good level, and he also had certain ability to protect the basket on the defensive end. But in the playoffs, Lopez's performance was shocking. He did not show any strength at all. His performance on both offense and defense was a disaster. Not only is his offensive efficiency awful, his outside shooting percentage is terrible, but his shortcomings in moving speed are constantly magnified. As a big center, he is unable to provide any help and support to the team in terms of rebound protection. Lopez's playing time during the playoffs was greatly reduced, and in the end he almost had no chance to play, which was closely related to his performance and his failure to display his value on both offense and defense.

I have to say that Lopez's performance and age are also quite incredible to get such a contract from the Clippers. Everyone can understand that the Clippers need a substitute center, but Lopez is a slower center than Ivica Zubac. It sounds outrageous to let him serve as Zubac's substitute. In the previous NBA draft, the Clippers selected the Swiss inside star Yanic Konan Niederhauser, who had previously played for NCAA team Penn State, with the 30th pick in the first round. I thought Needhauser might get a lot of opportunities to perform next season, and his characteristics are indeed quite complementary to Zubac. Now it seems that Needhauser's fate is probably not essentially different from another 30th pick in the first round, Kobe Brown.
