Timberwolves Rumor: Mark Stan talks about Kevin Durant's trading pursuit after losing the Western Conference Finals. The Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated in the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season and it's hard to see how they will overcome the difficulties. The simple answer is hope that the team can improve within it and that players like Anthony Edwards can continue to improve their game.
Another answer is to find players that can complement the team's roster this offseason. One of the players the Timberwolves may try to bring in is Kevin Durant, and his career with the Phoenix Suns seems to be coming to an end. NBA insider Mark Stan recently updated their pursuit of Durant.
"What role does the Timberwolves play in the Durant trade chase? It's not clear yet," Stan wrote. "It is undeniable that when the Phoenix Suns accidentally released Durant in February, the Timberwolves showed a strong interest in Durant. The question is: After losing to Oklahoma City in five games in the Western Conference Finals, did they realize the greater demand?"
The Timberwolves wanted to trade Durant before the trade deadline, but the result was not ideal. Despite this, they reached the Western Conference Finals all the way but failed to overcome many difficulties. Getting players like Durant may help them to the next level. Will the Timberwolves still be interested in Kevin Durant?
If the Timberwolves want to improve next season but think that internally can't do that, then getting players like Durant should be on their to-do list. ESPN's Brian Windhorst believes Durant is still in the team's plan.
"I asked the coach to talk to me about how fierce the competition in the Western Conference is, and you might have to play a great season to win over 50%," Windhorst said. "And I have evidence that if the chairman renews his contract, he may pursue some important goals."
Over time, the Western Conference will only become stronger and stronger, and teams will also find ways to improve their roster every offseason. The Timberwolves traded Carl Anthony Towns before the start of this season to improve the lineup. They need to keep the same mindset this offseason, but it will be very interesting to see what changes they will make to keep the Western Conference ahead.
