Dream-Chasing Green revealed: He once suggested to the Warriors boss not to give up Kumingga for the sake of James

According to the latest article by Gautam Varyl, a contributor to US sports media F/W. Warriors star Green revealed: He told Warriors boss Joe Lacob that he should not give up Kumingga for LeBron James. Green would love to be teammates with James, but this means that Cuminga will leave the Warriors, which he would not want to. In the NBA All-Star Game ALTCAST with Barkley and Rooks, Green revealed that he told Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob not to include Cumingga in any of LeBron’s trade visions.

"When I was on the phone with Joe, we were discussing what we had to give up, and I said if it was Kumingga, the answer was no," Green said. This is very interesting. When reports were reported that the Warriors were trying to bring in James to partner him with Curry. Green was revealed to be the one who encouraged Lacob to try to achieve this. Green also tried to get his agent Ritchie Paul to convince James to join the Warriors.

Green later stated that the report was not completely accurate, and that the idea was proposed by him. He found it interesting and decided to contact Rich Paul on the matter. Anyway, if the Golden State Warriors had to give up Kuminga in the trade, Green would object. If we really do what he said here, then it shows how high he evaluates Kuminga. After the Warriors picked him with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Kumingga found it difficult to get playing time in his first two seasons. It wasn't until the 2023-24 season that head coach Cole finally gave him a bigger role, and he impressed.

Kuminga started 26 games this season, averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He has now proven that he can be the second choice for Curry to be reliable offensive afterwards. Kumingga has also played a key role in improving the season’s record to 27-26 by winning eight of the Warriors’ last 10 games. With the talent he showed, you'll see why Green wants Kuminga to continue as a Warriors player.

Should the Warriors give up Kuminga in exchange for James?

If we only look at this on paper, the Warriors would give up 21-year-old Kumingga in exchange for 39-year-old LeBron. You usually say that a trade involving a player of that age doesn't make much sense, but one player here is James, so that's not a normal situation. LeBron is averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks this season, and he certainly has a few years left. This gave the Warriors a few seasons and they will be one of the title favorites.

Is the price of giving up Kumingga too high? I don't think so, especially if they desperately want to win another title in this Curry era. By the current roster, I don't think the Warriors are the real champion contender. If they want to win another championship or two under Curry, they need to make an amazing deal.

The only way they can do this is to give up Kuminga, the only player besides Curry who has a very high trading value on the roster. I believe Cuminga will be a very good player, but when he was at his peak, Curry, who is currently 35, may have retired. It will certainly be a pain to give up a talented young player, but I think the potential rewards will alleviate management concerns. Do you think Kuminga will be traded by the Warriors this summer?
