Backcourt general: It was the Celtics who trained me, I would not deliberately play for the data

12:34pm, 1 October 2025Basketball

The Boston Celtics held a media day event for the new season, during which the team's backcourt star Derrick White was interviewed by reporters, in which he talked about the topic of being ranked 26th among all players in the new season by ESPN and about the topic of he may get more ball rights next season.

When talking about the topic of ESPN ranking him to the 26th of all players next season, White said: I think it is all thanks to our team and our coaching staff. They have cultivated me, given me confidence, and made me who I am now. I know if I wasn't playing for the Celtics, I wouldn't be ranked 26th of all the players. Speaking about the possible increase in my ball rights in the new season, White continued: Compared to the past few seasons, our team's lineup has been adjusted in the new season, and I may get more ball rights. But after all, I will try my best to do what I should do on the court. Because I know that when I deliberately think about how many points I need to get in each game per game, this will actually lead to my poor gameplay. Therefore, I never set such goals for myself, because I have tried something similar in the past, which has actually not helped me in my performance. Now I just want to do more stably in everything.

In the NBA regular season last season, White played 76 games in the first 82 games, averaging 33.9 minutes per game, averaging 16.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.1 blocks, and 1.7 turnovers and 1.8 fouls, shooting percentage of 44.2%, three-point shooting percentage of 38.4%, and free throw shooting percentage of 83.9%. In the playoffs, White played 11 times in total, with averaging 37.7 minutes per game, averaging 18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.1 blocks, and 1.2 turnovers and 2 fouls. His shooting percentage was 46.3%, three-point shooting percentage was 38.5%, and free throw shooting percentage was 86.1%.

White's performance last season and his importance to the team are obvious to all. He can maintain sufficient stability in most games, his scoring ability is excellent, his offensive efficiency is quite stable, he also has certain passing ability and organizational ability, and he can also provide a lot of support to the team on the defensive end. As the team sent away a large number of important rotation players this summer, and the team's core player Jayson Tatum also suffered a serious injury with a ruptured Achilles tendon, it is expected to be reimbursed for the season, White's performance in the new season will largely determine the team's record and competitiveness. I don’t know what kind of performance White can perform in the new season.
