On July 11, according to famous reporter Shams, New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones has reached a three-year, $68 million contract extension with the team. Currently, Jones' total contract with the Pelicans is five years, with a total amount of $97 million, of which the 2029-30 season is the player option.

Shams said that Jones grew from a second round pick to a core player with excellent offense and defense, and was selected as the best defensive first team in the 2023-24 season. According to ESPN research data, since entering the NBA in 2021, he is one of only eight players in the league to contribute 350 steals and 150 blocks, and has ranked in the top ten in the league in defensive singles performance in the past two seasons.

Jones will be paid $13.9 million this season and $14.9 million for the 2026-27 season. The contract extension will take effect after the end of the 2026-27 season.

Jones played only 20 regular season games due to injury last season, averaging 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game. In the next five years, Jones' physical condition has been the main factor in evaluating the value of his contract. Fortunately, he played in 78 games, 66 games and 76 games respectively in the first three seasons of his career, without much injury problems.
