The market restarts, can top shooters get new life?

4:28pm, 19 September 2025Basketball

For Malik Beasley, the Detroit Pistons were originally planning to give him a three-year, 42 million contract as soon as the free market opened. For Beasley and the Pistons, this is a win-win operation.

As a result, the market situation took a sharp turn for the worse. Because of the investigation related to gambling, Beasley suddenly turned from a league-friendly investment to a venture capital, and the Pistons prepared contract disappeared. For Beasley, a big contract that he got was gone in a blink of an eye.

Fortunately, the plot has ushered in a turning point. Beasley is no longer the target of this investigation, and his free market is gradually restarting. But the problem is always in front of you. The salary space of each team has almost been exhausted. Either you rebuild the team and get a comfort contract, or you have to accept the basic salary in the championship team and play a year to prove yourself.

To be honest, this is somewhat unfair. After all, Beasley's performance last season was really hard, averaging 16.3 points, a three-point shooting percentage of 41.6%, and shooting up to 9.3 three-pointers per game. He is the league's most daring to shoot and excellent efficiency. He also ranked second in the sixth-man vote last season.

To put it bluntly, without Beasley's crazy firepower, it is basically difficult for the Pistons to enter the playoffs from the last train in the East.

It's just that the world of basketball has never been fair. The Pistons could have renewed their contract with him, but after they signed Duncan Robinson, they had already received Beasley's replacement. It is obvious that Beasley needs to find another new owner next.

So the question is: Which team is the most suitable to take over Beasley?

First Team: Orlando Magic

The Magic's operations this summer are considered a stunning deal. They poached Bain from the Grizzlies and added point guard Tyasse Jones. In one offseason, the team directly made up for the two major weaknesses in the outside organization and projection.

Backfield Jones, coupled with the healthy Sargus, can directly improve the Magic's half-court offense; while Bain is a high-profit shooter that the Magic relies on for many years. There are almost no obvious shortcomings in magic today. While the Cavaliers and Knicks in the East are the biggest hits, everyone needs to be careful about this quietly mature young team.

Just imagine, if there is another Beasley next to Banchero and Wagner? The Magic can keep Bain and Beasley's rotational appearances throughout the whole game, which is definitely an opportunity for a young team that is desperate to break through the playoff ceiling.

Of course, Orlando hasn't really proved himself after all. But if Beasley is willing to take a gamble and trade a low salary for a chance to win the championship, Magic is undoubtedly a perfect ending point.

Second Team: Milwaukee Bucks

Beasley wore the Bucks' jersey in the 2023-24 season. That year, Beasley played in 79 games, including 77 starts. Although there were ups and downs during the period, his three-point efficiency was still top-notch, which was a complete necessity player for a team that built around Antetokounmpo.

For the current Bucks, after Lillard left, the depth of the outside rotation basically bottomed out. The team needs to rely too much on young players to support the game. Kevin Porter Jr., Trent Jr., and Cole Anthony Jr. can all shoot, but the offensive stability is still unknown. In such a lineup environment, if Beasley can return, he will be the third scoring point of the team at the first time and an important puzzle for this playoff team.

From Beasley's perspective, the Bucks can directly provide him with the stage and also keep him competitive. If he can continue his shooting performance last season and the Bucks firmly occupy the playoffs, then by 2026, he will have a chance to get a belated contract again. What’s more important is that Antetokounmpo’s future is not stable, and no one can say whether he will leave early. In this context, the Bucks need to strengthen to stabilize the morale of the army, and Beasley happens to be the kind of puzzle player with low cost and high profits.

Third Team: The Golden State Warriors

Warriors are also very special. There are only ten contract players in the current lineup. Kumingga's renewal issue is delayed and the team is unwilling to deal with him easily. In short, the current Warriors are in urgent need of strengthening.

After Clay left the team, the Warriors' shooting guard position was mainly handed over to Podjemsky and Hilder. Although both of them have three-pointers, if they can add another Beasley, the offense at this position will naturally be able to go to a higher level.

From the perspective of player functions, Beasley's role and Hilder slightly overlap, but his shooting explosive power is stronger. If he can join the Warriors, it is basically equivalent to a direct upgrade version.

And for the Warriors, choosing to sign Beasley is almost zero risk. For Beasley, the Warriors' three-point system is the offensive mode he is most familiar with. Curry and Butler ensure that the team will not fall completely. Beasley is by these two core members, and he can not only get a stable playing time, but also may even get a starting position.

Even though the Warriors may not be considered a championship team at the moment, as long as Curry is still there, the Warriors should not be completely ignored. For Beasley, who wants to prove himself and continue to play in high-level games, the Warriors are definitely a high-quality choice.
