Jaylen Brown is rarely discussed as a trade candidate because he is Tatum’s partner and one of the best players in the league.

If Brown is traded, the Spurs need to chase him. The four-time All-Star player has the blood of a championship. Last season, he won the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP, and finally won his first championship ring, which is enough to prove this.

Brown is a third-level scorer and elite defender. He averaged 19 points per game in his nine-year career, and considering he was only 28 years old, he wasn't too old for the San Antonio Spurs roster. The Spurs have nearly more tradable assets than any team in the league, and they may be able to trade Brown without sacrificing Rookie of the Year Stephen Castle.

Brown will be the elite winger among the league's Big Three, including Victor Vibaniama and De Aaron Fox, a newly formed powerful central defender combination. The Spurs were the No. 13 seed last year, but even if they don't make a deal with the Boston Celtics, their future is much brighter than that. However, if Brown joins the team, they will be the champion contender immediately.

Devin Wassel and Kelden Johnson are both excellent players, but they are far less than Brown's, and the Spurs have a lot of draft picks to attract the Celtics. They can offer two draft picks, including the draw for the 2025 NBA Draft, which includes the second pick, which Boston will likely use to pick Dylan Harper.

Will the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown?

Brown is one of the most versatile players in the NBA. While controlling financial situations is wise, the Celtics shouldn't trade him. After Tatum returns, Boston will be a title contender again, while Brown is still in its prime. It would be more reasonable to give up Holiday and/or Porzingis, as both players have passed their peak years and have bad contracts.

Wassel averaged 19.5 points per game two years ago at the age of 24, while Johnson, 25, averaged 22 points per game this season.

The deal will enhance the depth of the Boston Celtics, with Wassell and Johnson perhaps able to replicate Brown’s outstanding performance, and spending nearly $9 million less. More importantly, the Celtics will receive two lottery draws. Having a controlled rookie contract player means a lot to the Celtics, especially because they can make these two draft picks into strong, even very good players.

Harper is expected to be the second-tier show, and his ceiling is the All-Star level. Excellent players will inevitably slip to the end of the lottery zone, and the Hawks' first-round pick in 2027 may eventually be among the top few in the first round as they may be on the verge of a collapse.

To some extent, Brown's trade heralds the Celtics' reconstruction, but that's not very reasonable because they do have the potential of a dynasty. This deal may be worth a try, as it can extend their championship window and is also an important move to help them get closer to second-tier players. Although it is not very likely, it is interesting to think about it.
